One Response to Good Try, “Upstairs, Downstairs”…

  1. Brenna says:

I was actually shocked about this when Becker mentioned this yesterday in class. I thought for sure that a show with a legacy like “Upstairs, Downstairs” would survive. It’s a continuation of a show that was relatively popular when it first aired in the 70s, so it would bring older demographics who were fans of the original, and it is Downtownesque, so it should have brought younger people who enjoyed the show – especially since it’s not directly competing with Downton right now and fills a void for pretty, period dramas. It seems to fit with the BBC’s brand and mass audience appeal. Is it not even getting bumped to another of the BBC channels? If it wasn’t right for BBC1, could it have done better on one of the niche channels like BBC2?
