Beyond the Body Farm is a non-fiction book about forensic anthropology. Set in Tennessee, the book illustrates the evolution of forensic anthropology: from before the term was even coined to big technological advances in modern anthropology. Jefferson Bass shows the advancements in anthropology by framing each chapter as a mystery that anthropology helped solve. The book goes in chronological order, showing how as more advanced technology emerges, more cases can be solved. Fondly known to Bass as “the CSI effect,” Beyond the Body Farm also shows the dichotomy between crime television and real life crime. The book also includes sixteen pages of pictures from the cases which can help the reader visualize what the crime scenes looked like.
