Candice Frankovelgia, Coaching Portfolio Manager

As a consultant to the Department of Defense, Candice held a seven-year expatriate assignment in Germany where she developed and implemented programs to provide mental health services to family members of American government personnel experiencing extreme change resulting from the fall of the Berlin Wall. During this time, Candice also established a private, international consultancy working with business leaders and healthcare professionals on topics related to organizational change.

Her experience spans healthcare, education, energy, engineering, entertainment, family-owned business, financial services, government, insurance, law, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, philanthropic, and publishing. Some clients include Memorial Health Systems, UCLA Health Systems, Rockefeller Foundation, Shire Pharmaceuticals, PartnerRe, Getty Images, Mars, and Virginia Tech.

Candice is Senior Faculty and Coaching Portfolio Manager and has been with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL®) since 1996. With a background in both business and behavioral science, Candice integrates these disciplines to design and deliver tailored programs for individual, team and organizational development. She serves as team coach for senior executive teams in Fortune 500 companies and Universities. She also delivers Awareness Programs for Executive Excellence (APEX®), an intensive assessment, feedback, and coaching program for C-suite executives. Candice is a faculty member for Leadership at the Peak, the Center’s senior-level executive development program designed to address the unique challenges of leaders at the top of the organization. Candice is the Global Lead for Coaching for Human Resource Professionals designed to help people managers expand their organizational influence. Since 2000, Candice has designed and managed large-scale coaching interventions in global organizations. She directs a cadre of top-level executive coaches and has expertise in linking individual leadership development to organizational impact.

Areas of professional depth include family-owned businesses, coaching senior leaders and their teams, and women’s leadership issues.

Candice graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame where she was among pioneering women bringing co-education to this previously all-male institution. She earned a doctorate in professional and applied clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in applied systems theory.

Recent publications include chapters in Center for Creative Leadership Handbook of Coaching in Organizations (Jossey-Bass, 2015), HBR Guide to Coaching your Employees (HBR Press, 2013) and co-authored chapters on coaching CCL’s Handbook of Coaching: A Guide for The Leader Coach (Jossey-Bass, March 2006) and Handbook of Leadership Development (Jossey-Bass, March 2009).

 

Brian Buford
Adjunct Staff

Brian has worked with hundreds of leaders and teams as a coach, consultant, facilitator, and speaker. Prior to independent practice, he worked at Target, a Fortune World’s Most Admired Company. At Target, Brian built the development program for top talent, executive coaching function, action learning program, and managed the enterprise leadership development team. He has designed and facilitated programs on coaching, cross-functional teamwork, leading change, innovation, diversity, and talent management. Prior to Target, Brian was at a boutique management consulting firm.

Brian is in independent practice and works with clients across many different industries, helping leaders change and organizations build better talent. His practice areas include executive coaching, leadership development, 360 feedback, succession planning, cross-functional team effectiveness, change management, and organizational culture.

Brian earned a B.S. (cum laude) in Psychology from Kansas State University, a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Iowa, and a post-doctoral internship in Consulting Psychology. He is certified to deliver feedback in CCL-proprietary 360-degree assessments, Workplace Big Five 4.0, and other psychometric assessment instruments. Brian is a CCL-approved feedback coach. Brian is a Certified Action Learning Coach from the World Institute for Action Learning and a Master Resilience Trainer at the University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology Center. He has held adjunct appointments at five universities including the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

Brian is a member of the American Philatelic Society, American Psychological Association, National Speakers Association, Society of Consulting Psychology, and Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
