Claudia Carroll is a PhD candidate in the English department. Her dissertation, “Why Characters Feel Real” aims to explain what styles of characterization cause a fictional protagonist to seem just like a real person to the reader. The project incorporates research in cognitive science and philosophy of mind to shed light on the representation of fictional consciousness, and also supplements traditional literary analysis with computational text analysis.

Kristen Carlson (she/her) is a Ph.D. Candidate in English with a minor in the History of Philosophy and Science (HPS) at the University of Notre Dame. Her research explores the rise of modernity and its emerging social, scientific, and literary forms of the late-19th and early-20th centuries.
Arnaud Zimmern is a postdoctoral fellow at the Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship and a research fellow in Responsible Innovation at the Technology Ethics Center. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Notre Dame and his book project, The Cure of All: Panaceas and Progress from Shakespeare to Milton, bridges literary analysis with the history of medicine and theories of responsible innovation to examine the onset of utopian narratives of medical progress in the seventeenth century.
