Journal information

Founded in the fall of 2023, the Journal of Data and Societal Endeavors (JDSE) is a platform for disseminating Notre Dame undergraduate and graduate student research. Specifically, the JDSE presents ongoing data science research that promotes societal growth and wellbeing.

The JDSE is designed to also facilitate Notre Dame students in academic writing skills (via peer review) and to encourage engagement and collaboration with society at large in data science research.

The JDSE is a student-led publishing journal operated from the University of Notre Dame, and is in connection with the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society. All Notre Dame students pursuing research/projects that employ data science techniques/methods, with implications to the greater society, are invited to submit their work with the JDSE!

Our journal is committed to:

1. Encouraging student engagement: Our journal seeks to promote student involvement in solving current societal challenges in our campus, city, nation and world using the power of data science. Students are encouraged to collaborate with researchers that contribute to academic discourse across disciplines.

2. Facilitate knowledge sharing: Our journal serves as a medium for students to share their insights, findings, and perspectives with a wider audience. By showcasing their work, we aim to facilitate the exchange of ideas, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and enrich the academic community.

3. Promote academic excellence: We uphold the highest standards of academic rigor, integrity, and professionalism in the review and publication process. Through rigorous peer review, we strive to ensure the quality, validity, and significance of the research published in our journal.

4. Foster professional development: We are committed to supporting the professional development of students by providing them with valuable experience in academic publishing and peer review. Through involvement in the journal’s activities, students gain practical skills, enhance their academic credentials, and prepare themselves for future careers in academia and beyond.

In pursuit of these aims, we are guided by principles of academic integrity, as well as ethical conduct. We invite all members of our school community to join us in this endeavor and contribute to the vibrant intellectual culture of our journal.
