This chapter is filled with Freudian ideas and theories as one could guess by the title. He acknowledges that Freud’s theories are a bit close to the prior ‘war as human nature’ theory which Harris disagrees with; war is not inevitable, aggression is. He relates war and sexism with toxic masculinity and Oedipus complex. He also seems in agreement with the existence of penis envy for girls. Harris believes that the Oedipus complex and penis envy give way to sexist hierarchies and can lead to a culture of waging war to show status and let out aggression.
