Program Costs
Students in the Master of Engineering (MEng) program are required to pay full-time tuition and fees to the University. Costs for the academic year can be viewed here. A confirmation fee of $1,000 is required with a student’s signed Acceptance of Offer to the professional masters program. This fee will be applied to the student’s tuition upon enrollment at Notre Dame and is non-refundable if the student chooses not to matriculate to the University.
The University requires all graduate students to have health insurance coverage. At the beginning of each academic year, the opportunity is provided to show proof of personal health insurance coverage. In the event such proof is not presented, the student will automatically be enrolled in the University-sponsored plan, and the charge for the premium will be placed on the student’s account.
Financial Arrangements
Tuition and fees, as well as any required deposits, are payable in advance at the beginning of each semester. Please note that Notre Dame does not accept credit cards for payment of tuition and fees. Tuition and/or fees not covered by scholarship are the responsibility of the student.
A student may not register for a new semester or receive transcripts, certificates, diploma, or any information regarding his or her academic record until all prior accounts have been settled in full.
For more information, visit the Office of Student Accounts.
Scholarships
- Partial merit-based scholarships are provided based on the strength of each applicant’s academic and professional record at the time of admission decision. There is nothing additional required beyond the application to be considered for these merit-based scholarships.
- Additional material not required by the application (e.g., proof of GRE scores, FE exam results, PE licensure, PMP qualification, etc) may be provided by the applicant as part of their application and will be considered in regard to merit-based scholarships.
- Information regarding need-based financial aid can be found at the ND Office of Financial Aid. MEng staff do not handle need-based financial aid matters directly. See more information pertaining to financial aid at the bottom of this page.
- Many industry scholarships exist for students pursuing professional masters degrees in engineering. Please search online for scholarships pertaining to your field of interest. INDOT and DoD SMART are only a couple of examples. Other examples can be found here. UCLA’s fellowship database also offers an extensive list of external fellowship opportunities to consider.
- Occasionally there may be the opportunity for paid tutorial assistantships, based on the teaching needs of the department. Contact the MEng Academic Program Administrator at masteng@nd.edu to register your interest. Please note, these positions are not guaranteed in advance of your enrollment and do not cover full-tuition fees.
- Some of our students take on student employment during the year. Full-time students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week, although we often recommend less due to the academic demands of the MEng curriculum. Due to visa restrictions, international students may only work on-campus positions.
Financial Aid
Applying for Federal Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the official document required for federal student aid at Notre Dame. Students wishing to apply for federal student aid must complete the FAFSA. Priority processing and aid consideration are given to those who apply for financial aid by the suggested deadline: before Feb. 28 for the following fall semester. However, we still encourage you to apply for financial aid if you miss the priority deadline.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for federal student aid, a student must:
- Be either a citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen of the United States with a valid Social Security Number
- Not owe a federal student grant, nor be in default on a federal student loan, and
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Please Note: International students are not eligible for federal student aid.
How to Apply
The FAFSA is available online or from Notre Dame’s Financial Aid website. A pre-application worksheet is available for your convenience to assist you with this process.
