Each year, the Society of Women Engineers hosts Girl Scout Day with the local girl scout troops to expose them to engineering and what studying and pursuing a career in engineering might entail. During the event, the girl scouts learn about many different types of engineering including mechanical, chemical, electrical, and civil engineering with presentations about each type and relevant activities to follow.
Girl Scout Day helps the local girls in the South Bend community become excited about engineering. Seeing women they can look up to speaking passionately about engineering and STEM related fields is important to help these girls realize that they can pursue engineering if they have an interest in the field.
The event reaches over 60 girls in the local community and has always been a lot of fun for both the girls and the SWE members.
