A warm welcome to Brandon Czowski!  Brandon is a biochemistry Ph.D. student who completed his B.S. in Biochemistry at Grand Valley State University. He’s ramping up a project on the more molecular arm of our lab, identifying molecular mechanisms of pH sensitive proteins. Learn more about Brandon here. We’ve been busy in the White lab since our last update. Two talented postdoctoral fellows: Ricardo Romero-Moreno and Keelan Trull joined the lab in September! Keelan is working on optogenetic tool development to manipulate pHi and Ricardo is working to understand how pHi dynamics shape the mutational landscape of cancers.

Our review/prospective piece is out in Cancer Metastasis Reviews: Intracellular pH dynamics and charge-changing somatic mutations in cancer. Why does pHi matter in cancer progression and evolution? How are pHi and somatic mutations linked? Find out!

Good news! Julia has officially joined the White Lab! Julia is a first year graduate student in the IBMS program here at Notre Dame. She’ll be working on intracellular pH heterogeneity in spheroid models and extending this work to answer interesting questions about the potential predictive and diagnostic features of pH!

Our first graduate student started today! Welcome to Caitlin Donahue! Caitlin is a 2017 graduate of Roanoke College. She will be developing optogenetic tools for manipulating pH in real time. Learn more about Caitlin here!
