Biographical Information
Joe Diorio is a Civil Engineer with over three years of industry experience working as a consultant and land surveyor for three different engineering companies: Consulting Engineering Services, Land Dimensions Engineering, and Kennedy Health System. Through these positions, Joe has gained real world experience with both large and small-scale design projects. Joe was responsible for not only performing land surveys but also taking that information and producing engineering drawings that adhered to the company’s standards. The final product would then be submitted to the county engineer for review.
As an undergraduate student at Rowan University, Joe worked on various projects that included topics such as Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Campus RainWorks Challenge, and Energy Alternatives for a local Veteran Home. During his time working on the PHEV project, Joe and his team analyzed the emission tradeoff that occurs from switching to Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles along with the additional load that is put on the power plants. Joe also participated in the EPA’s Campus Rainworks Challenge, where his team proposed a new design for green space at Rowan University that consisted of a bioretention basin and porous pavement to better manage the runoff that was occurring over the area, while also providing an aesthetically pleasing solution. Lastly, Joe worked with the Vineland Veteran Home to perform an energy audit to analyze the facility’s electrical usage to determine if the facility should implement a Photovoltaic System and to determine the optimal location of the system.
Besides academics, Joe is an avid rock-climber, a stock investor, and participated in various sports throughout his high school and college career.
Joe plans to sit for the patent bar in June 2016
