Aleksey Maro is a Society of Science postdoctoral fellow, working with the Archie Lab and the Amboseli Baboon Research Project. His interests include understanding how the gut microbiome is influenced by the food microbiome in wild primates, and in particular the role of microbial fermentation in shaping dietary and social evolution.

Aleksey received a PhD in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2026, and a BA in Integrative Biology from the same institution in 2015. His doctoral work investigated the role of fermentative alcohol in the fruit diet of wild chimpanzees and the nectar diet of floral pollinators, which received extensive media coverage available here: www.alekseymaro.com/talks
