Drone surveillance vs. the surveillance of drones

I found this article to be highly relevant to today’s discussion concerning drones. The Trump administration wants to make it easier to intercept electronic communications from drones in order to protect sensitive targets. In other words, they want surveillance of drone surveillance.

  1. John, thanks for sharing. We approached this from a state law perspective, but it makes sense that the Federal government will need a counterpart. I have mixed feelings about this, I don’t love the idea of increased Federal police force powers, but simultaneously understand the need to address evolving technological threats and capabilities by terrorists. I suppose if the regulation were narrowly drafted that could be a compromise but it will be interesting to see what debate this gets in Congress where there are privacy advocates who take these matters seriously.
