Sierra Weyhmiller
Education:
University of Notre Dame Physics and Mathematics Double Major, 2017-present
Glynn Family Honors Minor, 2017-present
Current Research:
Using nuclear scattering to determine various bulk properties of nuclear matter, especially the nuclear incompressibility. Currently, Sierra is working on machine learning techniques to explore more effective methods of spectrograph analysis.
Achievements:
Sierra was selected to spend her spring 2020 semester in Geneva, Switzerland. There, she took classes in French and conducted physics machine learning research at CERN. In addition, Sierra is a proud member of the Notre Dame Marching Band, playing both the tuba and the flute in various ensembles. Sierra was selected as the section leader for the tuba section in 2020. In April 2021, Sierra was inducted into the Sigma Pi Sigma honor society. She was also awarded the Paul Chagnon Award for Service in 2021. The Paul Chagnon Award for Service is given for demonstrated character and leadership, and for service to the University, the Department of Physics, and to his or her fellow physics majors. Sierra will attend Yale University for graduate school, where she will work on experimental relativistic heavy ion collision research.
