Biographical Information:

Victoria earned her BS, summa cum laude, at the University of Maine in the field of Microbiology.  During her time at the University of Maine she worked on research projects aimed at understanding the role of deforestation in carbon and nitrogen sequestration in old growth forests.  She is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame.  Her dissertation work has been under the guidance of Dr. Jeff Schorey.  As part of her dissertation she designed and carried out several research projects that focused on understanding immune responses during a Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection designed to provide new mechanisms for both diagnostic and vaccine platforms.  In recognition for her work, Victoria was awarded the Eck Institute for Global Health Fellowship, which provided two years of funding.  Victoria has presented her research at several professional meetings, such as: Keystone Symposia on Tuberculosis Research, Midwest Microbial Pathogenesis Conference, and the US-Japan Conference of Tuberculosis and Leprosy.

While at Notre Dame she has been an invited lecturer for an introductory biology course and was recognized for excellence in graduate student teaching by the university’s Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning.

Victoria is a member of professional societies including:  Maine Society of Microbiology, American Society of Microbiology, and the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles.

Victoria’s pursuit of education through the Masters of Science in Patent Law program provides her the skills necessary for career as a patent agent in the field of biomedical sciences.   She plans to sit the patent bar exam by the summer of 2016.
