After the shrinking of the Ref. Work Room, where is…?

Posted on September 26, 2011 in Uncategorized by Linda

1.  Typewriter

It is now located outside of the old Reserve Book Room, on a high table next to the workstation.

2.  Typewriter supplies

The ribbons, etc. are located in bottom of the Supply Cabinet.

3.  Paper supplies

All the plates, utensils, etc. are located in the two drawers in the short file cabinet next to the coffee maker, under the tool box.

4.  Vertical File

The vertical file is in the top two drawers of the wood file cabinet to the left of the mailboxes.

5.  Writing Center laptop & supplies

These items are located in the bottom drawer of the wood file cabinet.

6.  Extra key to Reference Work Room

On a “pink” key chain in the Reference Desk drawer (so our students have access to paper and supplies on the weekend and after hours).

Just let me know if you can’t find something.

Chat- speakers off

During my shift, I found that the speakers were muted to 1% so we would not be able to hear the chat signal.   I have the speakers at 90% now.

Outlook Problem

Posted on September 22, 2011 in Uncategorized by

Several times since we’ve had the new version of Outlook, it’s had a problem when I arrived at the desk.  The problem is indicated with an exclamation point sign on the taskbar icon, and it seems to be that Outlook is offline.  Recent emails have not been received, and Send/Receive all folders doesn’t work.  Today when I arrived no emails had come in since yesterday morning.  I’ve been dealing with the problem by closing Outlook and starting it again.  After I logged in today, the build-up of about eight emails arrived.

I have no idea what’s causing the problem, but it makes timely response impossible if the emails aren’t being received.

Text a Librarian?

Posted on September 22, 2011 in Uncategorized by

I noticed that Desk Tracker and the Ask-a-Librarian page have a new text option.  I asked a friend to send a test text, and it came to the desk via chat.  However, she sent the text at 6:24, and the chat popped up at 6:29–a full 5 minute delay.

Found at ref desk

When I came on my 11:00am shift this morning, there was a stack of release forms dealing with security fixing cars. There was also an ND travel mug next to it. I took them both to lost and found.

Checking out reference books

Posted on September 20, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sherri

Steve Armet, a graduate student, came in on Saturday to check out one of our reference books. The graduate students are not authorized to allow check out of library reference materials. Rather than putting the graduate students into having to make a decision about whether to allow books to be checked out or not, I would prefer that we keep it to librarians only who can sign the form. I have told Steve that if he comes in on Friday afternoon, he can check the referenc book out until Monday morning.
