Prospective Students
Thank you for your interest in joining the Data Security and Privacy Lab (DSP-Lab). Please read this page before contacting me.
Open Ph.D. position. I am looking for a Ph.D. student to work on trusted execution environments (TEEs) for secure and trustworthy AI and large language models (LLMs).
Working with me
I try to provide the best environment for the students I work with, and my first-priority goal is to let all students become independent researchers. If you want to be let alone, I will not micromanage you as long as I am convinced that you are on a good trajectory. If you want every detail to be advised by me, I will also do so. Those are two extreme cases, and I can be anywhere in between, depending on your preference and progress.
What I look for
- Self-motivated, hard-working, and mature
- Able to learn any new language within a reasonable time frame
- Comfortable using Linux/Unix systems
- A CS background that matches your most recent degree (i.e., its core course content)
- Background or interest in the lab’s research areas
Please note that our group does not do research in machine learning and data analysis for cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, or blockchain-based deep learning, so I am unable to advise students in those areas.
How to apply
- Email me before you submit your application. It gives your application a better chance of being accepted. Because I receive many inquiry emails, please include all of the following; without them, it is very likely that I will move on to the next email.
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Unofficial transcripts from all of your previous studies
- English proficiency test scores (if you are an international applicant) and GRE scores with percentiles (if you have taken the exam)
- A brief description of your research interests and how they relate to the lab’s research areas
- Sample publications (if any)
- Apply to the CSE Ph.D. program and add me as one of your potential faculty advisors. It also helps if you mention your strong interest in my research, and my name, in your Statement of Purpose.
