I’m not sure if the recent influx of immigrants with expertise in science and engineering is a good or bad thing. On the positive side, foreign immigrants with expertise in areas in which there has traditionally been a dearth should help the U.S. remain strong/competitive in the high tech arena. However, because of the high level of unemployment among U.S. citizens in the United States, I think the focus should be on providing incentives for students to pursue science and engineering degrees. Thousands of young college (and graduate students) cannot find jobs and thus provide a drain on the economy. If some of these students pursued engineering degrees rather than liberal arts/business/law/etc.. degrees, we could supply jobs for those students rather than recruit talent from abroad.
