Despite my significant mancrush on Nick Gillespie, I think his usage of Tesla as a free-market pioneer is a bit misleading. Tesla benefits from a $7,500 subsidy per vehicle, plus many other state incentives. http://www.forbes.com/sites/patrickmichaels/2013/05/27/if-tesla-would-stop-selling-cars-wed-all-save-some-money/
His point on regulation stifling innovation is well taken, but perhaps a better example of free market innovation could have been used. Uber and Airbnb didn’t take massive federal government loans, and are not profitable solely due to government handouts today.
