January Canvas Workshops

There will be several chances for Canvas training via Zoom during the week before Spring classes begin in January. Various independent sessions will focus on basic Canvas orientation, setting up a course gradebook, creating assessments, and organizing course content.

Canvas Orientation Workshop

This orientation session will offer a basic overview of the Canvas learning management system and will answer common questions from new users. We will cover basic set-up for a new course site, including assignments, quizzes and gradebook.

Setting Up Your Canvas Gradebook

The Canvas gradebook has several clever features that make grading and communicating with students easy. But gradebook set-up may not happen the way you think it would! Join us for an overview of gradebook set-up that includes weighing categories, controlling visibility of grades, and special messaging of students.

Creating Tests in Canvas

Learn how to create a quiz or test in Canvas’ classic Quiz tool. We will discuss the most common question types, feedback option, question pools and exceptions.

Organizing Your Canvas Course: Assignments, Syllabus, Pages and Modules

Canvas offers different ways for instructors to organize a semester’s work. Assignment due dates start the process, but more meaningful organization happens with Pages and Modules. We will look at creating modules as well as the other ways to guide student progress through coursework.

In particular, though, we recommend the Higher Ed Canvas Group and Canvas Guides.

The Higher Ed group is an interactive group where faculty frequently share tips and tricks and answer questions.  The Canvas Guides are curated by the vendor, and are easily searchable.
