Major Grant Award for $7.9M

[September 7, 2017] Under the direction of ND CSE Profs. Aaron Striegel (PI), Nitesh Chawla (co-PI), and Dong Wang (Senior Personnel), the University of Notre Dame has been awarded a $7.9M contract from the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (IARPA). The research will involve advances in data fusion from wearables, smartphones, and social media to better understand performance in cognitively demanding workplaces. The work will involve instrumenting 750 working professionals over an entire year to create a landmark dataset for studying the myriad of factors that impact workplace performance.

(April 12, 2017) We are now looking to recruit the following positions for our research group for the coming academic year (subject to finalization of funding):

  • 1-2 PhD students
    • Wearables and network performance (WiFi / cellular)
  • 1 Postdoctoral associate – 1 year
    • Wearables and human health
    • Start date of mid to late May
  • 1 Project Manager
    • Help manage two larger projects for the next 21+ months
    • Start date of mid to late May
  • Multiple Software Engineers
    • Back-end operations (Databases, web services) – Postgres / MySQL, Django, Flask, Python
    • Mobile devices – Android, iOS development
    • One position for 21+ months, one position for 6 months
    • Start date of mid to late May

ND Wireless Institute PAWR Briefing

(March 20th, 2017) The Wireless Institute will be hosting a media briefing related to Notre Dame’s and South Bend’s ongoing development of a $25M Platform for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) proposal to the National Science Foundation.  Mayor Pete Buttigieg and other City officials, Notre Dame researchers, and representatives from the St. Joe Valley Metronet will discuss site tests that were conducted over the past few weeks.

The briefing will be held on Monday, March 20th from 2:45-3:30 pm at O’Brien Recreation Center in South Bend, 321 E Walter St., South Bend, IN 46614.

Large Grant – Selected for Negotation

[January 25th, 2017] We have received notice that one of our proposals (Tesserae) has been selected for negotiation for funding (subject to contract finalization).  The effort brings together a distinguished set of faculty across five institutions including Notre Dame, University of California-Irvine, Georgia Tech, Dartmouth, and Carnegie Mellon.
