The PD[N]ano Lab is delighted to announce that Carlie Kudary has successfully passed her Ph.D. qualifying examination in the Bioengineering Program at the University of Notre Dame, housed in the Department of Civil, Environmental Engineering, and Earth Sciences on August 20, 2026. Passing the qualifying exam is the milestone that formally marks the transition from graduate student to doctoral program student, and Carlie cleared it with a body of work that is already promising.
Her exam document, Multi-Antigen Targeting Bridge-Nanoparticle for Increased Targeting of Solid Tumors, lays out both the problem she is attacking and the early experimental evidence that her approach can work.
What comes next
The near-term work quantifies T cell recruitment directly and measures T-cell-induced cancer cell death after activation, which will set the dosing for everything downstream. In vivo studies in established esophageal tumor models are planned in collaboration with the Hassan group at the Indiana University School of Medicine – South Bend, with immune recruitment at the tumor site as a longer-term question.
