Aleph 22 Recap

  • Upgrade was done
  • Issues with highlighting fields and copy/paste in the catalog GUI
  • Have seen some problems with call slips, but appears to pre-date upgrade to Aleph 22.
    • Could we cron a report of items with outstanding holds? Especially for items in process
  • No reports of speed issues.
  • Excel ready reports are ready.
  • Test server:
    • aleph2.library.nd.edu
    • Can install from control panel (NDU)
    • For MALCs should be in Google folder

Aleph 22 Minor Release

  •  Aleph 22.1 has been released
  • Should correct the ‘Correct Headings’ function
  • Also has feature for opening report in a browser (to allow copy/paste)
  • Will post release notes and discuss time frame at next meeting.

Rome Library

  • Production Koha is up and running
  • Still trying to get list of patrons to load
  • Waiting for OK from Jennifer to purge records in Aleph

Law Library Update

  • Planning report to the Law School this spring
  • Technical needs
    • EDI Ordering
    • Banner invoicing
    • Batch record loading
  • Time frame: Sept. 2015-June 2017
  • Fully separate database: xxx01, xxx10, xxx50, xxx60
  • Issue: Local training
    • May be helpful to have some MALC staff involved in training
    • Question: how many staff does Law have?

Annex

  • Inventory system is progressing with contract programmer
  • We have been collecting condition info, will ingest into Aleph, internal note field. If there is an existing note, the conditions will be pre-pended.
  • Will do size study for plannogram and tray ordering.
  • Visited Western Michigan and will visit Northwestern

Aleph Upgrade

  • Tom will bring Aleph 20 down on Saturday Morning
    • This will allow Friday night backups to run
  • Should be mostly done on Saturday
  • Monitors will shut self-check down 11pm Friday and place signs
  • Service desk open 12-5 Saturday (off-line loans)
  • No service desk on Sunday, building is open
  • Monday Plans
    • Old server will be ‘down’ but accessible
    • Work may begin, but keep track in case work needs to be re-done
    • Upload offline circ
    • Verify Aleph 22 is functional
      • Circ
      • Acquisitions
      • Cataloging
    • Send “all-clear” message to ULON and Aleph 22
    • Turn on self-check machines
  • New client is available now on control panel Add/Remove programs
  • aleph1.library.nd.edu will be the production server

InterMALC Delivery

  • Bring Aleph 22 with requests set to OFF in tab15
  • Activate requests on Jan. 5
  • Add banner to Primo indicating that Requests will be unavailable during break.

Aleph 22 Testing

  • Cataloging/Items functions: no problems
  • Serial publication patterns work as the do in Aleph 20
  • Loading records is easier, but indexing is very slow.
  • Basic cataloging functionality: did not find problems other than correct headings functionality.
  • Need to settle on font.ini settings
    • Max font size is 17
  • New setting in catalog.ini for which menu comes up on right-click
  • Alephcom.ini new print type
  • Connexion: export, overlay works
  • SMC: acquisitions seems ok
  • SMC tested reports — ok
  • SMC will test batch loading
  • Labeling is fine
  • BC: tested cataloging, serials, circ. OK
  • BC: tested email notices
  • Circulation: nothing coming up for a no-go
  • Set up issues — need to put in workstation ID
  • Need to test notices
  • Need to test holds, recalls
  • Have tested doc del request. Need to test printing.
  • Need to test intermalc
  • Need to test OPAC via Primo
  • Need to test self-check

New Functionality

  • Link to RDA toolkit works
  • Need to test multiple items in order loader

Cut over weekend

  • Discussion of whether to bring up self-check on Sunday or,
  • Use off-line circ in GUI

Aleph 22 Upgrade

  • Let Justin know if you have any issues with the client
  • Mary reported problems with fonts — using production font.ini does not fix problem.
  • Copying scripts from production
    • Spreadsheet in google docs folder
  • New report print client does not allow copy/paste
    • newprinttype=Y
    • change to newprinttype=N

Law Library Integration

Annex Update

  • IMS meeting next week
  • Started barcoding monographs & serials in lower-level
    • Practice barcoding to work out procedures
    • Posted position description for temporary staff
    • Have found overwhelming amount of problems
  • Plan is to hire a moving company to pull & move collections in the spring
  • This week a number of people from the library will tour the facility
  • Have started meeting with Architecture firm that will be remodeling facility
  • Facility shared with Archives, Snite, Film television theater, possibly Law

Annex Update

  •  Hoped to start moving items in mid-April
  • 10th Floor renovation begins in summer (immediately after graduation?)
  • Prep work beginning ASAP

Tantur Update

  • Deleting HOL records deleted many of the attached bibs
  • Tried deleting LKR from HOL first, to break link to bib, which seemed to work.
  • Will run full process on Paul next week prior to running in production.

Aleph 22 Upgrade

    • Virtual server, so can expand more easily
    • Installed software
    • Ran upgrade against tables
    • Justin has made first round on tweaks on tables
    • Updated data from Paul

Aleph 22 Upgrade

  • Servers have been installed.
  • Have done test upgrade express
  • Concentrating on file cleanup on Aleph 20.
    • After cleanup, will capture config files for upgrade express and put in v.22
    • Once file changes are captured, any configuration changes needed in prod will have to be duplicated manually in v.22.
  • Still need to build the client
    • Send client set up info (e.g. ini setting) to Justin, for your module.
  • Discussion of tab100. Would like to add all switches to file even if set to default.

  • Did a full extract of Notre Dame database to send to Hathi.
    • (Different from the Gov Docs extract done earlier this year.)
    • Send data 1-4 times/year
    • Elements
      • OCLC
      • System number
      • ISBN/ISSN
      • Volume information (monographs)
      • Preservation / Missing status (Did not include in this extract)
      • Federal document flag
    • Found about 2000 records that could not be parsed
      • OCLC number problems
      • Records that “broke” MARC batch modules because the record was not UTF.
      • Records with invalid indicators in 866 (e.g., dashes or dollar signs).
    • Need to develop policies to track preservation (brittle) and missing items for Hathi.
