Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore
Andre Gide
I am majoring in Physics with a minor in Philosophy and an intended minor in Mediterranean Middle Eastern Studies. I am very intrigued by the many great achievements that were reached throughout history in the Arab world, especially considering we are often taught a perspective more focused on Europe. Arabic is a beautiful language, and I hope to develop a proficiency with it as well as work on fluency in speaking.
This summer, I will be traveling to Jordan with the Qasid Institute. Placing myself in another culture is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the world, and there is no better way to work on language comprehension and fluency than by immersing yourself in the language where it is spoken. Also, I hope to be able to work with local organization to help Syrian refugees who have fled to Jordan.
